Welcome to Competitive Play
The Minors Division is where competitive baseball really takes off! Players aged 9-10 experience the excitement of kid pitch, base stealing, and playoff competition. This is where fundamentals developed in earlier divisions come together as players learn to compete, work as a team, and grow their love for the game.
With a focus on skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork, our Minors program prepares players for the next level while ensuring every child has fun and meaningful playing time.
Season Options
Two opportunities to play each year
Spring Season
March - June
Our main competitive season featuring a full schedule of games culminating in exciting playoff action. Players develop their skills throughout the season and compete for the championship.
Games are typically held on weekday evenings and Saturdays.
Fall Season
August - October
A great opportunity to continue playing and improving skills after the spring season. Fall ball offers a more relaxed atmosphere while still providing quality competition and development.
Perfect for players looking to stay sharp or new players wanting to get ready for spring.
Rules & Expectations
To protect young arms and develop multiple pitchers, we have these guidelines:
- At least 3 different pitchers must be used per game (for 6-inning games)
- Maximum 3 innings per game for any pitcher
- Maximum 4 innings on consecutive days
- Maximum 7 innings in any 7-day period
- No balk rule at this level - we're still learning!
Minors introduces base stealing - here's how it works:
- Stealing 2nd and 3rd base is allowed
- No stealing home - runners can only score on batted balls or walks with bases loaded
- Runners can advance on pick-off attempts at any base
- Runners cannot leave the base until the ball is hit or passes the batter
- No headfirst sliding (except when returning to a base) - safety first!
- Bunting is allowed
Games are structured to keep competition balanced and move at a good pace:
- 6-run limit per inning - the inning ends after 6 runs score (except for home runs and ground rule doubles)
- No run limit in final 2 innings - finish the game strong!
- Regulation game is 6 innings (official after 4 innings, or 3.5 if home team is ahead)
- No new inning starts after 8:00 PM
Player safety and good sportsmanship are our top priorities:
- Runners must slide or avoid contact at home plate
- Direct collisions with fielders result in an out
- Equipment throwing results in ejection and one-game suspension
- No games are forfeited due to lack of players - we always find a way to play!
Field Setup (Coach Resource)
Home team coaches are responsible for field preparation. Here's what you need to know:
- Arrive early to check field conditions
- Bases and digging tools are located in the box behind the backstop
- The 3-wheeler for dragging is in the garage - take a rake with you
- Remove mound cover and fold it behind 1st base dugout fencing
Proper field dragging keeps our fields safe and playable:
- Drive the 3-wheeler to the field and assess starting point
- Unsecure the mat, drop the drag bar, and unroll the mat
- Follow the appropriate drag pattern for the day
- Exit at the 3rd base corner - do not take mat onto grass
- Use the rake to spread piled-up dirt from the mat
Important: Drag slowly and be careful around home plate and dugout fencing. Do not use tines unless instructed. Never go over the mound with tines down.
Batter's Boxes
- Line up the batter's box frame against home plate with the 2 bars touching the white edge
- Drag broom handle around interior of frame to mark the dirt
- Repeat on opposite side, then remove frame
- Drop the silver handle into the 2" notch and follow indentations with front wheel
Foul Lines
- Hammer the string line pin behind home plate's rear point
- Stretch string line down baseline, aligned with outer edge of base
- Start chalk line at batter's box corner, go to grass edge with front wheel on string
- Repeat for other foul line
Away team coaches are responsible for cleanup after the last game of the day:
- Place bases in the box behind backstop and replace base post inserts
- Rake base areas by pushing dirt back into the base path
- Place mound cover back on the mound
- Drag the field using standard patterns
